« The Narrative Voice of Middlemarch »
Résumé
This chapter focuses on the problems, implications, and ambiguities of the narrative voice / narrative agency in Middlemarch. The narrative agency appears as more important than any of the characters in the novel and is less transparent than is generally implied in traditional fiction. The role and posture of the narrative voice are all the more important in Middlemarch as they imply crucial narrative choices which lead to the rejection of totalising discourse.
