Statistical-analysis of the laser remote-sensing data on stratospheric aerosol

Résumé

Statistical characteristics of backscattering profiles of stratospheric aerosol layer are studied. Correlation matrix, eigenvalues and eigenvectors of correlation matrix of backscattering ratio are presented. The analysis of the data obtained shows that the method of decomposition into natural orthogonal components permits to formulate a parametric model describing backscattering of stratospheric aerosol and reveal characteristic altitude ranges in the atmosphere.
