Compared to C. japonicum, C. rubrum coral contains higher Ba and Pb (>6 and >0.2 ppm, respectively). This chemical fingerprinting technique was developed by the authors’ group during prior research and is successfully tested here on three polished red coral cabochons of known origin. This minimally destructive, relatively inexpensive and easy-to-implement method can help enforce trade regulations by distinguishing CITES-listed C. japonicum from non-CITES-listed C. rubrum precious corals. %G English %2 https://hal.uca.fr/hal-03333517/document %2 https://hal.uca.fr/hal-03333517/file/VersionWord-V2-HAL-LR%281%29.pdf %L hal-03333517 %U https://hal.uca.fr/hal-03333517 %~ IRD %~ INSU %~ PRES_CLERMONT %~ CNRS %~ UNIV-AMU %~ LMV %~ GIP-BE %~ LECOB %~ ACL-SF %~ UNIV-PARIS-SACLAY %~ CINAM %~ SYNCHROTRON-SOLEIL %~ OPGC %~ SORBONNE-UNIVERSITE %~ SORBONNE-UNIV %~ SU-SCIENCES %~ UMS-2348 %~ TEST-HALCNRS %~ SU-TI %~ GS-PHYSIQUE %~ INSTITUT-SCIENCES-LUMIERE %~ ALLIANCE-SU %~ TEST3-HALCNRS
